Photosynthesis is a Portland, Oregon based company founded in the fall of 2009 by New England native, Alphonse Goettler.

Photosynthesis Mission Statement

The photosynthesis mission is to transform people's favorite digital images into a beautiful work of art that will last a lifetime. Our goal is to produce the highest quality product possible, provide our customers with excellent and timely service, and create a positive impact on our local community and world by supporting causes for the good of the whole and adhering to green business practices wherever possible. Photosynthesis aims for zero waste and use of local products.

About Name and Logo:

Photosynthesis or the transformation of light into energy comes from the Greek photo meaning "light" and synthesis, meaning "putting together" or "composition".

I was drawn to the name photosynthesis for two reasons:
1. Light and composition are two of the most important elements to any photo or piece of art.
2. Starting my digital image studio would lead to many tranformations, beginning with my own personal transformation from corporate to entrepreneur.

Logo: Koru (the spiral)
The Koru is the Maori name given to the new unfurling silver fern frond and symbolizes new life, new beginnings, growth, strength, harmony and peace. It is an integral symbol in Maori carvings and tattoos. I came across this symbol on my trips to Australia and New Zealand and thought it would be a perfect as the photosynthesis logo.
